Each year since 1945 the CBCA has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week.

During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators.

What are the CBCA Book Awards?

Established with the first awards in 1946, the annual CBCA Book of the Year Awards aim to:

• promote quality literature for young Australians;
• support and encourage a wide range of Australian writers and illustrators of children’s books and;
• celebrate contributions to Australian children’s literature.

What do the judges look for?

CBCA Judges assess entries primarily for:

1. Literary merit – aesthetic qualities of language, standing the test of time, realistic characters
2. Cohesiveness – language, theme, style
3. Appeal to the readership
4. Quality – illustrations, book design, production, editing
5. Originality

All students in the Early Learning Centre and Junior School will be involved in critically evaluating the 2022 shortlisted books from the following categories.

Hutchins Book Week Dress Up Day

Stay tuned for information about the Hutchins Book Week Dress Up Day.

On this day, we encourage all students to dress up either using inspiration from this year’s theme, Dreaming with Eyes Open, or as their favourite book character.  

We know that dress up days sometimes put pressure on families to create fabulous outfits, therefore we have a couple of suggestions for you:

•    Be creative!  Social media platforms such as Pintrest have fabulous suggestions.
•    Please do not buy or hire a costume.
•    Raid dress up boxes, either your own or those belonging to family and friends.
•    Your child may have PE on this day.  If so, please ensure their costume does not impede their participation in PE.
